Well id better start a thread about my Sportka project.
Me and my partner have owned 6 Ka's between us, 2 of which were Sportka's so we kinda "love" the Ford Ka's.
Sooo, we bought our 7th about 6 weeks back. Its a Sportka SE with 39k, Cat C damaged. We picked it up for £1300.
It looked in a sorry state when it arrived and to be honest ive never seen such a badly, bodged, dangerous repair! I new it needed alot more work than expected once id inspected it, but a project is a project and a challenge or two is part of the fun.
When it arrived...
Check out the respray!...
This is some of the panel damage...
Thankfully, the front bumper is totally undamaged, no fogs but they would be coming out anyhow.
Our Plan for the Ka is to be just a track car, so will be declared SORN and trailerd to events. This beats tax, insurance also.
Its not a absolute budget build but parts will be mainly second hand.
And so far found some tidy little bargains....
Wheels, Team dynamics pro rally in white. 15" X 6.5J second hand but never been on a car £155...
AP coilover kit...
2x Cobra Clubman bucket seats, 2x Cobra sliding subframes, 2x TRS 4 point harnesses,( soon to be forsale ) Will get pics up shortly. All for £180.
Got a Cam and Manifold coming from south Africa if they ever arrive!
More later.

Ditch the sliding subframes. Not what you want when driving quick round a circuit. They are more than likely fine but I wouldn't trust a sliding subframe when I'm flying round a track. Sounds good though how much did the cam and manifold cost you from SA?
It cetainly is going to be the 1.6 duratec. With cam and manifold, exhaust, de-cat, induction and maybe a port/polish. Itll be fun for now, and the girlfriend will be learning to race drive in this so will be perfect for her to start with.
Richy888, I agree with the subframes. We had wanted to go the fixed route but again it will be raced by 2 drivers of different size so a fixed mount would be a pain in the arse to unbolt and move after every 20-30 min session. A jubilee around the sliding mechanism is what a lot of road going track cars do.
That's fair enough but also give thought to the seat of a sliding frame will be too high to give decent feel. You want to sit low to aid the COG and gives your girlfriend a bit more of a feel of a race car positioning. Can't the taller of you compramise for the shorter as I'm sure you must be of a similar height?
Our plans is to get the Ka as lightweight as possible to get the most from the low powered engine and the better handling.
So obviously the leather interior was taken out and sold on...
Both airbags have deployed so they will come out when i take the dash out...
Carpet out and sold,
With all the interior out ive started stripping unneeded parts out. Rear wiper mechanism is out, all the audio system, roof liner etc...
Still got the sound deadening to peel out.
The air conditioning system is out apart from the pipes going behind the dash, which ill take out when the dash is out. I need a pulley belt from a non SE model and then the pump can also come off.
It was leaking oil when it arrived and it was dripping from the sump plug. Got a new plug from ford, changed the oil and it was still leaking! After a better inspection, i found another bodge, the oil sump as been repaired with some "filler"!
Luckily i found one on ebay.
Got 2 new headlights as the brackets had snapped on both. Thanks to LUBKA for those.
not to sound like im taking the *** but best way to get the sound deadaning stuff off is get it really hot and keep it hot it will come off alot easier and most of the glue should come with
When will the harnesses be for sale? are they in good condition? how much are you looking for? what colour are they? And what fixings are they?
Cheers
The harnesses are TRS 3" in blue. Excellent condition, need a clean which ill do before the sale and they have quick release straps to allow rear access (that dont sound right)! Eyelet mounts will be needed. Ive just got them so need to have a proper look at them.
As for the sliding seats, it wouldnt be possible to share a position, shes shorter than me and when she drives mine or hers the seats are in very different positions. Slidys will be fine im sure.

There's gotta be a "quick swap" way of using a side-mount surely???
(personally being a tarmac rallyist I go for the Gospel according to Giles Panizzi when it comes to seating position - high up & far forward "so you can tell where ze front corners of ze car are & see more of ze road for taking ze tighter lines through ze corners, non?" )
