Hi everyone I have searched the site and looked at many topics on rockers and how to adjust them, so today I went to get a set of feeler gauges. I have not opened the cover yet because I am still missing some info and parts.
The info I am looking for is how I will know if the assembly is too worn out to adjust and is it right to grind the feeler gauge down so it will not bridge the indentation on the rocker arm pad to give a false reading. As member mexico said in his post. http://www.myka.org/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?96632.0#post_97059
My engine is tapping and the engine vibes a lot in higher revs, for example 1st gear will take me from 0 to 20km/h, 2nd gear will take me from 20 to only 30 km/h, 3rd gear from 30 to 50km/h 4th gear will take me from 40km/h to around 65km/h after that it vibrates and 5th gear will take me from 60km to 90km and after that it will vibrate also but still able to keep on going to 100 and 110 but the vibration is making me feel numb so I have never went faster then that. And the tight changes between first few gears are because of the vibration and loose of power in high revs.
Can other things be causing this?
And the part I need is the gasket for the rocker cover as oil is slowly leaking out from there. Does anyone know where I can get it? And the part number will be great also.

Not sure of a part number but all you need to do is go to any half decent spares shop and ask for a 1.3 endura rocker gasket. I bought and fitted one last week for £1.99.

i am alive! was snowing bad with iced up roads. a deer crossed the road wjile i was doing 80km/h, i avoided it but lost control and started spinning went off the road, hit a tree root, oil sump and AC compressor is off, lost a few bumpers and dented the front a bit.
Airbags did not deploy But not a scratch on me or the GF. switched off the ignition and turn the hazord lights on and got off the car in a blink. doors open, even the tail gate and the snow boards in the back are ok! this is a safe car.
The car was looked over by ford 3000km ago strange that the airbags did not work. was kind of looking forward to it.
Not everyday you get to see a airbage work and get away with it without a scratch.
But i am feeling pain all over my body not from the crash but from the snow boarding. Happy to be alive.
Will know how much it is going to make the ka alive on monday. guess will not be fixing the tappets on my own after all.

got the price, it will cost around 1500 PLN around 328 GBP to get all the parts and fit them on. Oil pan, bumpers, pipes for the AC and the Radiator, body work for the front end and oil... they say they will even look over the tappets for free... sounded i bit too good to be true.
i saw the state of the front end with the compressor out under the bonet and bonet release hook smashed in. with clear view of the crank shaft from the absent oil pan. Hope the price sticks and dont keep on adding up.
will keep u guys and girls posted.

thats cheap for that amount of work, is the labour price included?! I paid £260 for two lower arms/bushes and some rip of mechanic to fit them. Along with some other minor jobs.

At that speed in those weather conditions I'm surprised you got off so lightly.
Treat this as a wake-up call !!

Got the car back after 2 whole months of waiting, this is Polish efficiency so no surprise there. And the job is bad as bad can be, they saved money on parts and just glued and stuck the old bumpers on, bad fit and everything is crap. The engine vibrates and very bad tap sound coming from the front left of the car. AC compressor is not rigged on because they say the compressor wheel is bent, oil is slowly dripping down under the car and the head lights are pointing too low even with the adjusters pointing straight up is still too low.
They saved money on parts so they try to fix what was broken. Made it all into labor hours, and when they did buy parts they priced it at between OEM and aftermarket price while buying aftermarket stuff. Lots of times I told them to go for used spare parts but they rather weld it together and charge 80% of the replacement part price.
Now I am left with a car that vibrates a lot and makes a loud tapping sound plus no AC and losing oil. The price is 2000 pln which is nothing I know but with the work like that and 2 months of waiting time, I think I should be paid 2000pln for my time waiting for them. The car is dirty inside and out side. It kind of makes you so angry that you want to petrol bomb the shop.

So now I am in the process of finding a new compressor and see what can be done to the car to make it run better. Otherwise I am selling the car and going for something else that has ESP so this will not happen again. And the noise and vibration just makes me want to hit someone.

What can the vibrations come from? and that loud tapping sound from the front left of the car. vibrations are on contantly, in idle and in power so is the tapping noise.

I gave my car a last try before it goes out the door.
Gave it to a mechanic that people say he knows what he is doing and IT WORKS!
To those who have tapping problems from the rockers, My rockers has not being adjusted for 5000 km before the crash, back then before the crash no one realy had the balls to have a go at it, not even ford... no supprise there, and after the crash it was horrible. Tapping and cracking so lowd people walking by will say; wow he modified his ka with a diesel engine, but it sound like he did a bad job.
The guy had a go at it for half a day which he also corrected many things that the previous jack ass has done. now i have to realy listen hard to hear the sounds from the rockers. it is that good i swear!
So ladies and gents! get those noisy rockers done by someone who realy knows what they are doing and you will be happy i promis!
