my cat glows red hot ever time i drive my ka even on short trips.. does any one elses do this as this is the 1st car ive had that gets this hot. ive checked the water in the engine even tho i dont think that will have anything todo with the exhaust temp. my friend ive mentioned it to all get twitchy about my car when i show them as if it will blow up? what do i do?
They operate at very high temperatures but I don't think it's normal for them to glow red (can't check mine coz I don't have one at the moment). It may be getting clogged with fuel or something. Strange that your lambda sensors haven't complained and triggered the check engine light on the dash.
my CAT is blocked its restricting the flow and performance of the car...... how bloody gay!!!!! new cat on its way..... orrr 421 mainifold?????
I have an SWR 4-2-1 manifold and it's a fantastic upgrade. Bundles of extra torque which adds excellent flexibility to the engine and stops me hitting the rev limiter all the time. It would throughly recommend one.
However, it won't solve your cat problem completely. As the standard manifold and cat are one piece, replacing that with a 4-2-1 will mean you will be running with no cat at all. That's fine until MOT time. So, you would also need to get a sport cat fitted. As far as I know, there are 3 options here. Get a full custom exhaust (such as a powerflow). Just get a sportcat fitted in place with your current exhaust. Or get the Janspeed Ford Racing exhaust, which includes a cat. Options 2 and 3 will require some modifications. The Janspeed is intended to for the Endura engined Ka. I'm currently saving up for the Janspeed.
So, the 4-2-1 plus exhaust option would work out more expensive that just replacing the standard manifold + cat. I reckon about £500 + fitting for the SWR + Janspeed option... but the performance increases are definitely worth it.
