Hi all,
I think this year the insurance companies want to rip me off even worse than last year!
I moved to the UK 3 years ago and only in 2009 I bought a car here, a Y-reg Ka (2001, Collection series). I thought I was getting a particularly good deal with the car purchase itself, so I bit the bullet and paid £540 for that first year of insurance with Virgin Money. I Compared the Meerkat (tm) and found they were one of the few who did not add to the premium because of the EU license (as if I should be thankful for not being discriminated ...) This year, well in advance of the renewal date I've been to price comparison websites to find that even adding 1 year of NCD the price will be around £750!
I've made more simulations to try and find out what is going on. I tried simulating with a newer car, tried to add additional NCD years, tried to say that my license is full UK (I could pay the fee of £50 to replace my current one)... and nothing. The typical price is about £1000 and the cheaper ones are around £750. I cannot believe this!
What kind of insurance are you guys paying? have you noticed a price increase for this year as well?
3 years no claims ona 1.6 sport ka, £550 fully comp im 21 years old and about to to get my 4 years no claims in a month or so. ] most people have to pay out nearly a grand in there first few years of driving. sounds pretty normal to me
Thanks Matty. My question to you is: has your insurance premium been increasing year on year by £200 at a time?
In my case, I have had my driver's license for 11 years now, so I really am not an inexperienced driver. I would expect that all else being equal, with one year of NCD added, the premium for 2010 would be lower than the one for 2009!

A bit more shopping around revealed: if I am the first driver and my fiancee the named driver, the price is £600 if my fiancee is the 1st driver and I am the named driver, then the price is... £480
fascinating that i have a drivers license since 1997 and she has a UK provisional license since last year...
